In October, 2025, I attended my first astrology conference, the Living Astrologies Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico, hosted by the Hermes-Hestia Center for Experiential Astrologies. It was incredible to be surrounded by so many open-hearted, thoughtful, articulate, creative, and curious people who all happened to speak the archaic language of astrology!
In honor of this experience, I created a perfume based on the land of Santa Fe. My Dad’s family is originally from New Mexico, and I have deep and complicated roots in that land. A dry, warm, and woody base supports the bright, sharp heart of piñon pine, honeysuckle, and subtly smoky lapsang souchong tea. The top notes of herbal sage, dry and bitter grapefruit, and velvety saffron combine to create a perfume that captures the beauty and sharpness of the high desert. I call it Hearts & Bones - borrowed from one of my favorite Paul Simon songs from his 1983 studio album of the same name. He sings about traveling in the Sangre de Cristo mountains, which run North out of Santa Fe and into Colorado.
